Damen Shipyards Group and Norway’s Folla Maritime have launched a joint venture shipyard, Damen Folla, to focus on the design and construction of vessels for the aquaculture sector.
The partnership combines Damen’s global network of shipyards with the Norwegian company’s expertise in aluminium workboat construction. The partners will now offer a wide range of vessels across the aquaculture sector from nearshore service craft to larger offshore support ships.
Damen Folla has already unveiled a new hybrid workboat design, the aquaculture service vessel 2813. The vessel has a 160m2 deck with three large cranes suitable for a range of aquaculture and offshore operations including net handling, anchor handling and the handling of remotely operated vehicle. The dynamically positioned vessel, with a bollard pull of about 28 tonnes, will be officially launched soon, the company said.
Damen product director in charge of aquaculture and fishing, Jeroen van den Berg, commented: “Damen Folla represents a new joint force for sustainable aquaculture solutions. With this joint venture, we unite local know-how with global scale. This enables us to provide tailor-made solutions; from agile aluminium workboats to larger service vessels operating in rough offshore conditions.”
Follow Maritime CEO, Otto Sjølien, said: “Our aluminium boats remain at the core of what we do. Partnering with Damen opens new opportunities for larger, more complex projects, something we’re seeing growing demand for.”
