Rostock’s Neptun Werft, a Meyer Werft subsidiary, has won an order from long-time customer, Viking River Cruises, for another ship in the Viking Longship series.

The hybrid vessel, like its four sister ships delivered in 2020, will have a hybrid propulsion system and has been designed to navigate the River Seine. Capable of docking in the centre of Paris, the 125m-long river cruise vessel will have capacity for 168 passengers.

Complying with the European Union’s strictest exhaust gas regulations, the ship will have batteries to avoid peak engine loads as well as a photovoltaic system on the upper deck contributing to the ship’s overall energy requirements.

Neptun Werft managing director, Bernard Meyer, said: “Viking’s long-standing trust in our products is proof of Neptun Werft’s high quality. With their hybrid system, the Viking Longships on the Seine River are among the most environmentally friendly on Europe’s rivers.”

The vessel is due for delivery in 2025.
