Naming ceremony for two Russian icebreakers
Femco Group is the only privately owned company in Russia specialising in operations by anchor handling vessels, Havyard notes. It has twelve offshore vessels and a long-term strategy of renewing its fleet. Last autumn, Femco's icebreaking AHTS Aleut was delivered by Havyard Ship Technology.
The two new vessels will be providing icebreaker escort together with anchor handling, towing and supply services at oilfields off the Russian Far East island of Sakhalin.
Havyard Ship Technology has now delivered eleven large icebreaking offshore vessels in total, and it says that no shipyard in the world has equivalent experience with this type of ship. The shipyard has delivered a third of all icebreakers of this type classified by DNV GL.
“We hope to further develop this relationship and our knowledge regarding construction of vessels for Arctic areas," said Havyard Ship Technology executive vice president Lasse Stokkeland, referring to his company's close ties to the Russian market. "We have the competence and technology attractive to shipowners operating in these areas, and in addition to the Havyard 843 ICE design, we also have other icebreaking designs in our portfolio, enabling us to quickly adapt these designs to the needs of the customers.”
The Havyard 843 ICE has a length of 86.7m, breadth of 19.5m, speed of 16 knots, bollard pull of 204 tonnes and accommodation for 53 persons.
