LPG as fuel for new VLGCs

The vessels will be used to serve Exmar's long-term commitments with Statoil ASA of Norway for worldwide LPG transportation announced in December last year. MAN Diesel & Turbo will develop an LPG fuel system, which can use part of the cargo for the vessels’ propulsion.
LPG as a fuel does not contain any sulphur and substantially reduces CO2 and NOx emissions and particulate matters are almost halved when compared with an engine using heavy fuel.
Exmar says its expertise and proven track record in LNG and LPG handling enables it to play a pioneering role in the gas shipping industry as this project will be the first to validate LPG as marine fuel.
