Korea Coast Guard chooses mtu engines from Rolls-Royce

The Korea Coast Guard (KCG) has selected mtu engines from the Rolls-Royce subsidiary for two major patrol boat projects over the next 15 years. The German engine firm will supply engines for both the new 50-ton and 500-ton patrol boat projects.

The KCG has selected mtu 16V 2000 M96 engines for the smaller patrol boats which will each have two shipsets. The first units will be delivered by 2027. Up to 50 shipsets are likely to be supplied over a 15-year period, KCG said, ensuring steady fleet renewal and long-term maritime security.

Meanwhile mtu will supply larger 20V 4000 M93L engines for the KCG’s 500-ton patrol boat class. Two ship sets, each with two units, will be supplied, also by 2027. These vessels are designed to reinforce the KCG’s crackdown on illegal vessels.
