Kappel propeller retrofit for Indian oil tanker

The 243m-long crude oil tanker Jag Lavanya will be retrofitted with a four-bladed Kappel propeller

The four-bladed Kappel propeller with a diameter of 6.9m will be delivered from MAN’s production partner Dalian Marine Propeller in China this month. Christian Wollerup Sørensen, sales manager of MAN Diesel & Turbo said: “With this vessel’s speed and operating profile, the new Kappel propeller will deliver a fuel saving of 4% together with a reduced level of pressure impulses to hull and without adding any other, efficiency-improving devices.”
MAN Diesel & Turbo’s partnership with Dalian Marine Propeller was recently confirmed with the production agreement for a series of Kappel propellers with a diameter of 7.2m for six of the world’s largest car carriers to be built by Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry, China, for the Norwegian shipping company Höegh.

MAN Diesel & Turbo’s PrimeServ retrofit team said it had signed an agreement with Great Eastern Shipping Company of Mumbai, India, for a propeller retrofit upgrade for its 105,000-dwt crude oil carrier Jag Lavanya, which was built in 2004.
