J-ENG announces new engine developments
Japan Engine Corporation (J-ENG) has released details of latest developments in its engine portfolio. The UEC42LSH, a successor to the UEC45LSE engine, is currently under development and due for release in March 2021. Like the earlier type – a best seller in the small- to medium-sized ship categories including handysize bulk carriers and chemical tankers – the LSH version will be developed with fuel consumption a top priority. Key attributes of the engine, J-ENG said, will be a more compact design with digital functionality to enhance reliability and allow condition-based maintenance.
Separately, the company has also revealed details of its marine gas oil mono-fuel engine, UEC-LSJ. This has been developed to comply with all environmental regulations relating to SOx, NOx and CO2, as required by the IMO’s EEDI framework. The company said that the single-fuel engine provides significant benefits to ship operators who can rely on the stability of marine gas oil and/or marine diesel in worldwide operation.
