Introduction of new dual-fuel engine

Wärtsilä’s new dual-fuel engine 46DF

According to the Finnish provider of products and services for the marine industry, the Wärtsilä 46DF consists of two different versions to meet specific customer needs. The high-efficiency version offers lower fuel consumption with a cylinder power of 1,045 kW, while the high-power version has a cylinder power of 1,145kW with excellent engine thermal efficiency, Wärtsilä said. For LNG carrier applications, the Wärtsilä 46DF offers fuel savings of up 20 tonnes/day compared with the first introduced DF engines, it added.
When operating in gas mode, the company said, the Wärtsilä 46DF engine is already compliant with IMO Tier III regulations without any secondary exhaust gas purification systems. In liquid fuel oil mode, the dual-fuel engines are fully compliant with the IMO Tier II exhaust emission regulations.

Wärtsilä has launched the dual-fuel engine 46DF, specifically developed for the high-output market segment, which includes cruise ships and ferries, merchant vessels, LNG carriers and FSRUs (floating storage and regasification units) as well as offshore vessels and platforms. The engine is capable of operating on natural gas, heavy fuel oil or marine diesel oil.
