Innovative life-saving appliance wins Danish Maritime Authority approval

DMA has officially approved the survival craft

Viking’s new system is made of two main elements: four inflatable Viking LifeCraft survival craft, each with capacity for 203 persons, and a fully self-contained stowage and launching appliance which can be placed on deck or built into the ship’s side.
The approval of what the DMA has defined as a ‘Novel Life-Saving Appliance’ follows successful trials of the hybrid lifeboat/life-raft system in heavy weather late last year. In a statement, Viking claimed that the DMA approval marks the first time that a truly ‘novel’ life-saving appliance has been approved anywhere in the world.

Danish life-saving equipment specialist, Viking, has been awarded official approval for its Viking LifeCraftTM Survival Craft by the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA), affirming that the system meets the requirements for replacing conventional lifeboats on passenger ships and other vessels where large-scale ship evacuation emergencies may occur.
