Hybrid yacht incorporates thrusters and batteries

The Vanadis has received the “Green Yachts” award in Cannes (Source: Schottel)

The recently delivered Vanadis, the fourth yacht based on an award-winning design, incorporates Schottel azimuth thrusters driven by two CAT C9.3 engines and a lithium-ion battery pack supplying most functions on board and sufficient power to cruise at limited speed for up to two hours. Built by Italian shipyard CCN, the 31m-long yacht will sail in Italian waters.
The two Schottel Twin Propellers STP 150 FP have an output of 260 kW each, provide a maximum speed of 12.5 knots, eight knots in electric mode. Each unit consists of two propellers rotating in the same direction, allowing power to be distributed over both propellers, thereby reducing loads. Benefits include reduced fuel consumption, less environmental impact and improved comfort thanks to less noise and vibration.
The yacht is one of CCN’s Fuoriserie line, winner of the “Green Yachts” category at September’s World Yachts Trophies in Cannes.
