Vlissingen-based Holland Shipyards Group has delivered the specialised cable recovery vessel, Maasvliet, to Hudig & Veder Group subsidiary, Hartel Shipping & Chartering. The 91m-long vessel will operate on long-term charter to Subsea Environmental Services deployed on subsea cable projects.
The diesel-electric power system will enable to vessel to operate using sustainable fuels. Its two electro motors provide a total installed power of 749 kW while the diesel-electric power train controls the speed of the propeller depending on variables including load factor, water level, and navigation route. The arrangement is expected to result in a fuel saving of up to 35% with a corresponding reduction in emissions.
The Maasvliet has advanced cable management systems and tanks for the storage of cables retrieved from the seabed. A spacious working deck and specialised handling equipment are designed to ensure that the vessel will be able to operate effectively even in challenging conditions at sea.
