Hapag-Lloyd delays container ship order
German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd said it is delaying plans to order large container ships because of the coronavirus crisis.
Hapag-Lloyd chief executive officer Mr Rolf Habben Jansen said the company is currently considering when it will place the order.“Realistically viewed, the current situation will lead to a delay,” he said. The company is likely to provide more details in early May.
Brokers said recently that Chinese yards are believed to be leading the race to win the order for six 23,000-TEU-large container ships for Hapag-Lloyd worth US$1.1 billion. Brokers again said China's Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard were seen as favourites win the order.
