The investment is a first step in a strategic fleet replacement programme (Illustration: Hanson)

British dredging company Hanson said it has placed a 70 million euro order for two dredgers with Dutch yard Barkmeijer.

The 3,000cu.m capacity trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs) will be the first new aggregate dredgers to be commissioned by Hanson in the UK for more than 25 years. They will enter service in 2019 and will carry 5,500 tonnes of sand and gravel.
