thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) has handed over the last two of a total of four ordered corvettes to the Israeli Navy.

The identical INS Atzmaut and INS Nitzachon, which are around 90m long and 13m wide, are part of the SA`AR 6 class and were built by TKMS in a joint venture with German Naval Yards Kiel. They are to be in service for the next 30 years and form the backbone of the Israeli Navy.

Vice Admiral Eliyahu Sharvit, commander-in-chief of the Israeli Navy, took over the ships at the handover ceremony. “I thank you for your tremendous effort invested in this combined project to ensure its extraordinary success,” he said.

The contract for the four corvettes was signed in May 2015 and construction began in February 2018. The first ship in the class, INS Magen, was named in May 2019 and handed over in November 2020. The second vessel, INS Oz, was delivered in May this year. Now, with the handover of the INS Atzmaut and INS Nitzachon, the project has been completed.
