First of two new ships for Saga Cruises handed over

The Spirit of Discovery, the first of two sister vessels built by Meyer Werft for British Cruise line, Saga Cruises, has been handed over and was due to arrive in Dover today. The 58,250gt vessel, with a length of 236m, is due to begin its inaugural cruise on July 10th.

Robin Shaw, CEO of Saga Travel, commented: “We are extremely happy with Saga’s first newbuild and believe we have created something very special for our guests that will be enjoyed for years to come. Indeed, it has exceeded our expectations and we look forward to welcoming our very first guests on the inuagural cruise.”

Speaking for the shipbuilder, Tim Meyer, managing director of Meyer Werft, said: “The team, consisting of cruise line, shipyard and suppliers, is working very hard and made it: the shipyard is back on track after delivering two ships in the first six months of the year 2019.”

The sister ship, Spirit of Adventure, is due for completion in summer 2020.
