Fincantieri and Carnival celebrate three decades and another steel-cutting

Trieste-based shipbuilder, Fincantieri, and the world’s largest cruise company, Carnival Corporation, have celebrated three decades of cooperation and the steel-cutting of the first of three Ace-class ships, to be named Carnival Destiny.
The ceremony was held at the shipbuilder’s Monfalcone yard where the two companies worked jointly on the first cruise ship larger than 100,000 gross tons, Carnival Destiny, in 1996. Over the intervening three decades, the shipbuilder has completed no fewer than 76 vessels for Carnival Corporation and 15 for Carnival Cruise Line.
The Carnival Destiny, due for delivery in 2029, will be the largest ship ever built by Fincantieri and constructed in Italy. The 220,000-ton vessel will be powered by LNG and have capacity for more than 8,000 passengers.
The Monfalcone facility is the shipbuilding group’s main production site and has built more than 45 cruise ships over the years. It employs about 6,500 people.
