Esbjerg-based offshore service and safety vessel operator, Esvagt, is to convert two platform supply vessels (PSVs) into emergency response rescue vessels (ERRV) at Ulstein Verft in Norway. The two supply ships, Hermit Fighter and Hermit Prosper, were both built by Ulstein and delivered in 2012. They will be converted for hybrid operation in a process undertaken by Ulstein Power & Control.

Preparatory work prior to the two ships’ October arrival has already begun at the Norwegian yard. As ERRVs, the ships will have a battery deckhouse with grid support for hybrid power, their methanol tanks will be rebuilt to carry liquids under the OSV Chemical Code, and prefabricated deckhouses on the main deck will be installed to accommodate rescue zones and new Esvagt-type fast rescue boats.

“This is indeed highly important projects for Esvagt,” commented Kristian Ole Jakobsen, the company’s deputy CEO. “We therefore appreciate the contracts with Ulstein Verft and Ulstein Power & Control for optimisation of functionalities and improved energy and emission efficiencies of the high-quality X-Bow vessels.”

Cathrine Kristiseter Marti, Ulstein Group CEO, said: “We are delighted to work with Esvagt again. This project shows that Ulstein can be a long-term partner working to ensure future competitiveness and sustainable growth for our customers.”

On their 2012 delivery, the two ships were the first of the PX121 design from Ulstein Design & Solutions AS.
