Double order for the Port of Saldanha

The new stan tug 2006 will be the fifth vessel of this type in the TNPA-fleet

The Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), South Africa, ordered two newbuildings at Damen Shipyards Cape Town (DSCT).

One is a pilot cutter 2706 and the second one is a stan tug 2006, which will be the fifth stan tug in the TNPA-fleet. Both vessels are planed to be deployed for operations in the Port of Saldanha, South Africa´s largest deepwater port.
The design of the stan tug is an enlarged version of the stan tug 1906. According to TNPA, the newbuilding will be used for general port services as well as for pilot duties. The new pilot cutter 2706 is part of a renewal programme and has been designed by DSCT in cooperation with Triton Naval Architects. It is customised for special conditions like pilot services in areas that are more than ten to 15 miles away from the harbour entrance. The pilot cutter is scheduled for delivery in May 2013, the tug in March 2013.
