Deltamarin awarded AiPs for various designs at Marintec

The FPSO AiP confirms the feasibility of a robust, fatigue-friendly hull optimised for multiple field locations

China Merchants Group subsidiary, Deltamarin, and China Merchants Heavy Industry have received an Approval in Principle (AiP) from classification society ABS for a flexible floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) design suitable for a range of offshore fields.

The AiP, awarded at Marintec last week, confirms that the FPSO hull has been optimised for offshore operations in various locations, including deepwater sites off the West African coast, for example. Such a unit would have a length of 285m, a storage capacity of 1.5 million barrels, and a topside capacity of 25,000 million tonnes.

Using parametric modelling to save time, the company has also developed designs for hulls of one-million-barrel and two-million-barrel capacities. The variants will ensure that hulls can be optimised depending on production and offloading requirements at the offshore location.

The barge-shaped hull, with double bottom, will have a five-by-three tank configuration, a spread mooring system of four by four, and a design life of 30 years. Depending on conditions prevailing at the site, the structural design can be further optimised to reduce steel weight, for example, thereby cutting capital cost.

Deltamarin has also been awarded five AiPs from DNV and Lloyd's Register for its next-generation, eco-efficient vessel designs. The approved concepts include a 20,000m3 LNG bunkering vessel, a hybrid and wind-assisted 9,500m3 liquefied ethylene carrier, a 6,200-dwt duplex stainless steel chemical tanker, a 103,000m3 very large ethane carrier, and an 8,000 -EU methanol-ready container vessel.
