The vessel will be built at the Damen-controlled Mangalia yard on the Black Sea where the shipyard group took operational control in a joint venture with the Romanian Government in 2018. At the time, it announced a strategy to construct larger and more complex vessels at the yard, now the largest in its portfolio.
SeaDream’s Polar Code 6 vessel will be built in its entirety in Mangalia, as Damen works in partnership with leading suppliers to the cruise industry, the company said. Construction is due to begin later this year, in October, with delivery scheduled for September 2021.
In 2018, Damen launched a new venture, Damen Cruise, through which it aims to utilise its diverse shipbuilding expertise in the cruise field. The company is aiming to become a long-time partner for the cruise industry, providing services in finance, if required, construction, outfitting and through-life maintenance and service.

Damen Shipyards Group has entered the buoyant cruise sector, winning a contract from Oslo-based SeaDream Yacht Club, for a 155m-long mega-yacht, to be deployed on luxury cruises worldwide.
