Construction of Middle East’s first LNG tug started

During the steel-cutting ceremony

Dubai-based Drydocks World and Maritime World has started the construction of the Middle East’s first LNG-powered habour tug in a steel-cutting ceremony. The 29m-long tug Elemarateyah is part of a 'green' initiative launched by the Dubai government, which is intended to set an example for promoting environmental sustainability throughout the region.

Wärtsilä will supply two nine-cylinder 20DF dual-fuel engines, steerable thrusters, the automation equipment, and the LNGPac system, including the bunkering station, the LNG tank and related process equipment, as well as the control and monitoring system.
TASNEEF, the classification society in the UAE, will provide classification and advisory services, issue mandatory certificates for ship registration, and provide technical and engineering services as well as training for the tug. Elemarateyah is due to be completed in May 2016.
