Netherlands-based Concordia Damen has closed a deal to build a 41m-long shallow draught pusher tug for an undisclosed client in Paraguay. The CDS 4115-type unit will be built at the inland shipyard in the Netherlands and is scheduled for delivery in 2027.
It is the second CDS 4115 to be built for a South American customer and it will operate on the 2,695-km- Paraguay River. In a push-barge setup with twelve barges, the entire unit can be as long as 281m by 48m. The pusher will have Caterpillar engines with a power output of about 4 MW (5,490hp).
The vessel’s shallow draught is essential because there are long periods of low water in the country’s dry season. It will be capable of operating in water depths of just 1.83m.
Damen Concordia Maritime technical manager, Bert Duijzer, commented: “We are honoured that we have been chosen for this joint project. It confirms the trust in our CDS designs for the South American market, and our experience with the specific operational challenges of inland waterway transport in Paraguay and the region.”
