Three new RoPax ferries ordered by Finnish ferry operator, Finnlines, are to have Auramarine fuel supply systems for multi-fuel engines capable of running on methanol. The Hansa Superstar-class vessels, due for delivery in 2028 and 2029, will be deployed on the Finland-Germany route.
The 240m-long Deltamarin-designed ships will have capacity for 5,100 lane-metres of cargo, accommodation for up to 1,100 passengers, and space for about 60 cars. They will be built at China Merchants Weihai yard and the fuel systems will be delivered later next year and early in 2027.
The ferries will also have a series of other fuel-saving systems including an optimised hull and propeller, waste heat recovery systems, and shore power connections.
Auramarine CEO, John Bergman, said: “Even though the IMO’s decision on the Net Zero Framework has been postponed, Auramarine remains steadfast in supporting the maritime industry’s green transition. We are fully committed to helping our customers advance their decarbonisation journey by providing reliable alternative fuel solutions and partnering in the development of more sustainable shipping – regardless of regulatory delays.”
Juha Ahia, Finnlines’ manager Newbuilding & Projects, commented: “This partnership reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainability as we work towards greener shipping operations. Auramarine’s expertise and reliable solutions play a key role in supporting our efforts to reduce emissions and lead the way in adopting alternative fuels across our fleet.”
