Bahrain’s Arab Shipbuilding and Repair yard (ASRY) and Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build, repair, refit and convert naval and commercial vessels. The agreement is intended to advance the regional shipbuilding sector and strengthen regional cooperation, the parties said.

The agreement, signed recently at the International Defence Exhibition and the Naval Defence Exhibition in Abu Dhabi, will see the two companies working together to build new naval auxiliary vessels and port craft with a joint committee to assess the feasibility of each project. The MoU was signed by the two companies’ chief executives, ASRY’s Dr Ahmed Al Abri, and ADSB’s David Massey.

“We hope this collaboration lays the groundwork for a successful and sustainable partnership, creating promising opportunities to engage in a range of projects,” declared ADSB’s Al Abri. “By combining our advanced technical capabilities with Abu Dhabi Ship Building’s extensive expertise, we can solidify our position as a leading maritime hub, offering practical and integrated solutions to clients.”

ASRY is the region’s oldest major shipbuilding and repair facility, established in 1977, and owned by the Government of Bahrain through the Bahrain Petroleum Company, Bapco. The Abu Dhabi-headquartered EDGE Group, set up in 2019, is an advanced technology and defence conglomerate with more than 25 companies engaged in military and civilian projects.
