US company American Cruise Lines has signed contracts with US yard Chesapeake Shipbuilding to build two more inland waterways passenger cruise vessels. They will be repeats of the 175-passenger inland waterways vessel American Melody, which is scheduled to begin sailings on the Mississippi this August.

The modern-style riverboats now ordered also have cabins all with private balconies and several large suites. They have five large decks with sky-lit atriums, dining rooms, indoor and outdoor lounges and the line’s largest fitness studios.

The latest vessels ordered are scheduled to be delivered in 2022. These will be the fifth and sixth in American's modern riverboat series, first introduced in 2018. In addition to the modern riverboats, American said it plans to continue building new ships for its coastal passenger sailings.
