Switzerland-based heavy-lift marine engineering company, Allseas, has engaged Vuyk Engineering of Rotterdam for the design of its new semisubmersible heavy transport vessel, Grand Tour. The ship will enable the transfer of heavy plant to the company’s Pioneering Spirit, the world’s largest heavy-lift vessel with a split hull.
To be built at China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Guangzhou Shipyard, the Grand Tour will be capable of transporting payloads of up to 60,000 tonnes. The 230m-long methanol-ready DP2 vessel will have a shallow draft for access to shipyards and a cargo deck of 180m by 57m for skidding, ro-ro operations, and float-on, float off transfers.
Cargo handling will be supported by a high-capacity ballast system enabling accurate transfer. An air lubrication system and podded propulsion will save fuel.
Vuyk Engineering director, Floris Teotenel, commented: “Having played a significant role in the engineering of Pioneering Spirit, we understand the operational demands and ambitions that drive Allseas. The Grand Tour builds on our expertise in semisubmersible transport vessels and alternative fuels, and reflects our shared commitment to innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in offshore transport and installation.”
