ABB signs electric propulsion deal with Cochin Shipyard

Switzerland-based ABB has won a contract to supply power and propulsion systems for two electric tugs to Polestar Maritime in the first phase of India’s Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP). The vessels, due for delivery from Cochin Shipyard to Polestar Maritime in 2027, will be deployed in India’s largest container port, Jawarharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), which accounts for about half of the country’s total container volumes.

The tugs will have ABB’s Onboard DC Grid^TM power system platforms and its power and energy management systems (PEMS^TM). The Swiss company will also supply its ABB Ability^TM Remote Diagnostic System for Marine to enable condition monitoring and remote troubleshooting.
