Wallem launches cyber threat protection service

Hong Kong-based Wallem Group has launched a consultancy service designed to protect clients’ vessels from computer disruption. Its Vessel IT Security and Management Services (VITS) have been developed to protect all of the shipboard systems on which marine operations and seafarers rely.

VITS provide shoreside IT experts to support shipping customers and, when necessary, enquiries are referred to specialist teams. A Remote Vessel Infra Support service is designed to resolve issues from shore but, in more complex cases, the ship management company can provide IT support on board ship, sending experts to provide assistance with IT infrastructure, upgrades, system checks, and troubleshooting.

Steve Whitby, Wallem Group IT & Technology director, commented: “Modern vessel operations demand connected IT infrastructure, but this can expose outdated onboard systems and virus signatures, hardware performance issues, and deficiencies in data back-up and IT support. Owners must secure networks, onboard systems, and data, against ransomware, phishing, and unauthorised access. VITS offers tailored services to safeguard vessel IT.”
