Wärtsilä awarded system-level cyber certification

Lloyd’s Register has awarded Wärtsilä Marine with system-level cyber certification for the network architecture relating to the company’s integrated main and auxiliary machinery. The certification gives Approval in Principle for the entire system network, rather than individual components, and is therefore one of the first validations of this kind to be awarded globally.
As information and operational technologies on board ships are incorporated into networks, resilience against unauthorised access, software failures or attacks on ships’ systems has never been more important, Wärtsilä said in a statement. Therefore the LR certification, ShipRight SAFE AL2, is very important for the Wärtsilä Data Collection Unit which, as part of the company’s Data Bridge system, is used to gather and transfer operational data to the cloud for remote monitoring.
Data Bridge is a Wärtsilä platform that facilitates advanced data analytics to provide insight into a ship’s performance and subsequently offer the potential to raise operational and technical efficiency in future operations.
