South Korea’s CY Shipping and Netherlands-based BigLift Shipping have ordered two more BC-class heavy-lift vessels at Jing Jiang Nanyang Shipbuilding Co. Ltd in China.
The 25,000dwt vessels are designed by the partners to carry ultra-large and heavy modular cargoes on global routes at reliable service speeds and low accelerations. They are due for delivery in the first and third quarters of 2028.
The 180m-long ships have a beam of 43m and a 140m-long deck giving a total deck area of 6,020m2. Cargoes can be loaded and discharged over the side or the stern using ro-ro or skidding operations. Their ballast systems will operate at up to 12,000m3 per hour.
With similar frame spacing, depth, ballast systems, and tidal compensation capabilities as the existing MC-class heavy-lift ships, BigLift Barents and BigLift Baffin, the two pairs of ships will be fully interchangeable.
James Jung, CY Shipping director, said: “The introduction of the BC-Class vessels reflects our shared vision with BigLift Shipping: to set new benchmarks in heavy transport services. These vessels not only expand our operational reach but also reinforce our commitment to the market.”
BigLift Shipping’s Johan Boer, commercial director, added: “With the four BC-Class vessels, we’re not just adding capacity – we’re adding reliability, flexibility, redundancy, and a unified standard of excellence. This marks a significant step forward in our mission to deliver innovative heavy transport solutions worldwide.”
