The towage and marine services company, Svitzer, and RoRo and vehicle logistics specialist, Wallenius Wilhelmsen, have agreed a global EcoTow deal which will enable the vehicle shipping company to reduce its Scope 3 emissions.
The agreement relates to towage activities in markets including Australia, UK, and Scandinavia. Using the mass balance principle, Svitzer will use biofuels across its tug operating network and bank the resulting carbon dioxide emission savings. These will then be allocated to Wallenius Wilhelmsen, enabling the company to reduce emissions relating to towage.
Ove Moring, senior manager Supplier Contracting & Equipment at Wallenius Wilhelmsen, commented: “This collaboration demonstrates the importance of partnerships in our decarbonisation efforts. Working with a like-minded partner like Svitzer gives us a reliable path to reduce emissions beyond our direct operations.”
Svitzer’s Key Customer manager, Sven Muchardt, said: “We are excited to partner with Wallenius Wilhelmsen on this initiative to help address the shared challenges of decarbonisation. This agreement strengthens our collaboration while supporting both companies’ strategic goals.”
The company’s head of Decarbonisation, Gareth Prowse, added: “We see EcoTow not only as a solution for today, but as a bridge to more transformative change. These agreements show that our customers are ready to act now, not later.”
