A new digital system, Shell LubeAnalyst, has been launched by Shell Marine to replace the company’s existing analog set-up, Shell Rapid Lubricant Analysis. The new service is one a series of steps in digital technology through which the company aims to support ship operators in the right choice of products for efficiency and component longevity.

The move comes against a backdrop of growing engine complexity and sophistication, together with a rapidly growing mix of marine fuels. Used oil analysis is now more important than ever, the company’s technologists say, and Shell LubeAnalyst will minimise the likelihood of human error on board ship, whilst also offering a faster analytics service.

The company’s general manager, Joris van Brussel, commented: “Drawing on Shell Marine’s 30-year knowledge base of sampling, analysis and diagnostics, Shell LubeAnalyst feeds directly into maintenance programmes. It provides vital insights when operating profiles or other circumstances change, such as fuel sulphur content restrictions. Enhanced lubricant analytics and reporting are driving the digitalised technical services that optimise productivity.”
