Nordic heavyweights team up in zero emissions initiative

Finnish technology company, Wärtsilä, is heading a new initiative to promote the transition to clean marine fuels. The Zero Emission Energy Distribution at Sea (ZEEDS) project is focusing on green fuels for ships in a move to reduce shipping’s carbon dioxide emissions, estimated at close to one billion tonnes annually.
Partners in the collaboration include Aker Solutions, Equinor, DFDS, Grieg Star and Kvaerner.
Cato Espero, Wärtsilä’s sales director, Marine division, Nordics and Baltics, commented: “The ZEEDS partners recognise that the transition to clean fuels will require a collective effort. We believe that by addressing the supply, storage and distribution chain, we can accelerate the switch to cleaner shipping fuels.”
The project partners presented some of the most promising ideas during Future Innovation Day – Horizons – in Oslo on June 3rd and again at Nor-Shipping on June 4th.
