NexusWave receives cyber security type approval from ClassNK

Classification society, ClassNK, has awarded Inmarsat’s connectivity service, NexusWave, with cyber security type approval, confirming compliance with the International Association of Classification Societies’ cyber security standard, UR E27.

This ‘unified requirement’ lays down mandatory requirements for the cyber resilience of shipboard systems and equipment. ClassNK assessed each component and verified the system in the context of a shipboard Information and Communication Technology (ICT) installation.

ClassNK general manager, Taro Okamoto, commented: “We are pleased to issue Cyber Security Type Approval to Inmarsat Maritime’s NexusWave, following our verification of its onboard ICT architecture and equipment against the applicable requirements of IACS UR E27. Working with industry front-runners such as Inmarsat Maritime is an important step in supporting the implementation of cyber-resilient technologies on board ships. ClassNK will continue to contribute to the safety and reliability of maritime technologies through impartial verification and certification.”
