'Foldable' container to cut carbon and save money

CCS claims the foldable box will cut costs, save storage space, and reduce emissions (Source: Compact Container Systems)

The world’s first five-in-one, foldable ISO-certified shipping container, SeaFold HC 40', has been launched by Florida-based Compact Container Systems (CCS). The company claims that more than a fifth of all containers return empty to their port of origin. However, using the new Seafold HC 40' will slash repositioning costs by 56%, storage space by 80%, and carbon emissions by up to 70%, according to CCS analysis.

Charlie Santos-Buch, CCS chairman and CEO, said: “The opportunity to place five of our folded containers in the same slot as one 40’ high-cube standard container is a game changer in managing container movements, maximising storage capacity, and greatly reducing carbon emissions.

“Whether it is saving cost or space, our containers create a safe and more efficient operating and storage system at a port, terminal or depot. This is especially important during the high-volume peak season when congestion is a big issue and moving out empty containers becomes a priority.”

The SeaFold HC 40', developed following detailed research, is manufactured from industry-standard materials of the highest quality, the company said. Meanwhile, the container has passed all International Organization for Standardization and water ingress testing, and is compatible with standard lifting equipment used in most ports, terminals, and depots.
