First European Shipping Week in Brussels

The first European Shipping Week (ESW) will take place from March 2nd to 6th 2015 in Brussels, Belgium.

Intended to be a platform for EU institutions, European shipowners and other stakeholders from the shipping sector, the ESW’s main focus will be put on important policy issues for the European and global shipping sector.  Its premier aim is to make European policy-makers aware of the added value that shipping brings to Europe and its citizens, according to Patrick Verhoeven, secretary general of the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA). Comprising a variety of conferences, the week-long ESW is founded by the European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA) and is run by a steering group made up of Europe's main shipping organisations as well as the European Commission and Shipping Innovation.
The shipping organisations of the steering group comprise: ECSA, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Europe, European Community Association of Ship Brokers and Agents (ECASBA), Interferry, the European Dredging Association, the World Shipping Council, and the European Tugowners' Association.
Confirmed participants and speakers include Philippe Louis Dreyfus, president of Louis Dreyfus Armateurs, Emanuele Grimaldi, managing director of the Grimaldi Group,Dan Sten Olsen, CEO of Stena Sphere, Marku Mylly, executive director of the European Maritime Safety Agency, Tor Egil Svensen, CEO Maritime of DNV GL and Peter De Keyser, chief economist at BNP Paribas Fortis.
