DNV launches AI-supported maritime rules assistant
DNV’s new RuleAgent has been designed to help the classification society’s shipping clients access rules and standards more easily and quickly. Working in real time, RuleAgent is said to reduce the time needed to research manually to find relevant guidance on key issues.
The setup searches DNV’s more than 30,000 pages of rules and standards to identify relevant paragraphs for the user’s enquiry. When vessel information is available, the system uses ship-specific data to narrow the search and provide more detailed guidance.
DNV Interim CEO, Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, commented: “Digitalisation continues to reshape maritime operations, and DNV is committed to leading this development in a responsible and practical way. By applying advanced AI to our rule framework, we are strengthening how our customers access trusted technical knowledge. This supports more efficient decision-making and helps the industry navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape.”
The software covers Rules for Ships, Offshore Units, and reference documents including Class Guidelines, Class Programs, Statutory Interpretations, Standards, Offshore Standards, and Recommended Practices. The system will be expanded in due course, DNV said.
