Arctic Tern receives its first green methanol bunkering at the Port of Shanghai

Eukor Car Carriers has successfully completed its first green bunkering operation, with 2,800 tonnes of green methanol supplied to the Arctic Tern, a 9,300-CEU pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) delivered to Eukor earlier in July. The vessel is the first of 14 Shaper-class vessels ordered by Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
The bunkering process was undertaken by ship-to-ship transfer using SIPG Energy’s dedicated methanol bunkering vessel, Hai Gang Zhi Yuan, the largest vessel of its kind currently in operation. It marked the first bunkering of green methanol produced locally at Shanghai Port for a PCTC operator.
World Fuel arranged the supply and delivery of the fuel, cooperating with SIPG Energy as the physical supplier. The ISSC-EU certified fuel was produced from municipal waste and had a carbon intensity rating of less than 25 gCO2e/MJ.

Eukor Car Carriers is jointly owned by Wallenius Wilhelmsen and Hyundai Motor Group. The ship is now on its maiden voyage to Europe.
