Marinakis-owned Capital Group has signed a contract with Kongsberg Maritime for K-Sim Engine Room and Cargo simulators for the Greek company’s training centre on the island of Chios.
The simulators will incorporate K-Chief automation systems that are installed on Capital’s tankers and LNG carriers so that seafarers undergoing training will have first-hand experience of the systems operating on the company’s ships.
Capital already uses Kongsberg K-Chief 600 and K-Chief 700 automation systems across its fleet. The link between automation on board ship and simulation training prepares seafarers undergoing training for what they can expect at sea.
Are Føllesdal Tjønn, managing director of Maritime Simulation at Kongsberg Maritime, commented: “Our mission is to support the maritime industry’s transition toward smarter, safer, and more efficient operations. The fact that we can deliver both proven automation system technology in addition to immersive simulation of the systems, puts us in a unique situation in supporting shipowners maximising operational efficiency and safety.”
Capital Ship Management’s Captain Ioannis Tsirigos, said: “Simulation training is a critical component of our crew development strategy. The ability to train on familiar automation systems, such as K-Chief 600 and K-Chief 700, ensures that our personnel gain hands-on experience, improving safety, efficiency, and operational effectiveness.”
The Norwegian company’s shipboard systems and its simulation technology were merged into Kongsberg Maritime at the beginning of April.
