Omani logistics and supply chain operator, Asyad, and Marseille-based CMA CGM Group have signed a deal to develop a new USD 400 million multipurpose logistics hub in Sohar on the country’s Gulf of Oman coast.

The partners are establishing a long-term strategic collaboration with the aim of boosting Oman’s port sector, improving and expanding supply chain options to enhance regional and international trade corridors.

The strategic move comes at a key moment. The new terminal, outside the Arabian Gulf and some distance  from the Strait of Hormuz, will offer an attractive alternative to container lines and their customers. When the new facility is opened, liner operators will have the option to save both time and fuel.

Asyad Group CEO, Eng. Abdulrahman Al Hatmi, commented: “This partnership reflects Asyad Group's vision of building strategic collaborations with major global companies to enhance the commercial attractiveness of Omani ports and maximise the economic value of their assets. This cooperation will open new horizons for attracting trade flows and quality investments to ports, and free and economic zones, and strengthening Oman's position in global supply chains.”

CMA CGM Group CEO and chairman, Rodolphe Saadé, said: “By developing a new logistics terminal at Sohar, we will strengthen regional connectivity while securing reliable inland access to key trade corridors. It will ensure greater resilience and efficiency for our customers’ supply chains.”
