Havyard clinches ferry contract with Fjord1

Tuesday, 13 Mar 2018

Norway’s Havyard Group has won a contract from ferry operator Fjord1 to provide designs for seven battery-powered ferries, five of which will be built at Havyard’s own shipyard.

The ferries will be used by Fjord1 to operate ferry services in Hordaland and Møre og Romsdal, starting on January 1st 2020

This latest deal takes Havyard Group’s orders in hand to 13 battery ferries at its own yard as well as the supply of 12 battery ferry designs.
The ferry designs have to meet strict requirements for low energy consumption even in severe weather conditions, and this was a significant challenge for Havyard’s design department. Advanced simulation tools were used to optimise the vessels over a range of operating profiles.
The construction contract applies to five 50-car ferries which will operate in the Langevåg-Buavåg and Fedje-Sævrøy in Hordaland, and one on Kvanne-Rykkjem and two at Edøya-Sandvika in Nordmøre.
The contract relating to the two 80-car ferries is for vessels that will operate in Seivika-Tømmervåg in Nordmøre.
