Vard wins offshore deal worth over USD 200 million
Fincantieri’s Norwegian subsidiary, Vard, is to build five walk-to-work offshore vessels for an unnamed international customer. The ships will be deployed in supply, maintenance, and operational servicing of offshore platforms in the oil and gas sector.
The exact value of the contract was not disclosed but its description as ‘very important’ means, in Fincantieri’s terms, that it is worth more than USD 200 million. The ships will be delivered during the second half of 2027 and the first quarter of 2028.
The 88m-long vessels will be built to a Vard 3 32 design developed jointly with the customer. They will be powered by diesel-electric machinery combined with a battery-hybrid setup. The arrangement will be compatible with all known future energy sources, the company said. The ships will also have a 3D motion-compensated crane and motion-compensated gangways and accommodation for up to 190 personnel.
Fincantieri CEO and managing director, Pierroberto Folgiero, said: “We are very pleased to further consolidate our role as a trusted partner and leader in the specialised vessels sector, an area fully aligned with our Industrial Plan for sustainable growth. Crew safety and operational efficiency remain our top priorities. These new vessels will integrate the most advanced technologies and tailor-made solutions to ensure optimised performance and reduced fuel consumption. Another step forward in fulfilling Fincantieri’s commitment to excellence and sustainability as our order book continues to expand.”
