Russia's Sovcomflot Group (SCF Group) says it has significantly increased the involvement of its fleet in meeting the needs of compatriot Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd (Sakhalin Energy) in multi-purpose icebreaking supply vessels serving Sakhalin-2 offshore platforms in the northern Pacific Ocean.

SCF Group, Sakhalin Energy, and Singapore-headquartered Swire Pacific Offshore have signed several agreements that entail the purchase of two platform supply vessels from Swire Pacific Offshore by SCF Group. All the three platform supply vessels used in the Sakhalin-2 project will now be operated by SCF Group under long-term time charter contracts with Sakhalin Energy.
The three ships are multi-purpose ice-class (Ice-10) supply vessels, which have been under the management of the joint venture SCF Swire Offshore since 2009. The vessels are manned by professional crews consisting of mariners from the Russian Far East and are operated under the Russian flag.
Under the signed agreements, the vessels will continue to be used for year-round delivery of supplies and consumables to three production platforms in the Sea of Okhotsk. In the event of an emergency, the vessels will be able to provide environmental protection and platform personnel safety services, including platform evacuation and fire suppression.
The Sakhalin-2 project involves development of the Piltun-Astokhskoye oil field and Lunskoye gas field on the north-eastern shelf of Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East.
