Singapore’s Seatrium Limited will soon deliver the first in a series of purpose-built floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel to the Brazilian national oil company, Petrobras. The sailaway ceremony of Petrobras 78 (P-78) took place early in July and the vessel is now on a voyage to Brazil where it will be deployed on what is claimed to be the world’s largest deepwater oilfield, Buzios.
P-78 will have a production capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil and 7.2 million cubic metres of gas per day. As one of the largest FPSOs to be commissioned so far, the vessel will also be capable of storing two million barrels of oil. The unit’s topside modules, manufactured in the group’s yards in Singapore, China and Brazil, weighs 54,000 tonnes.
Seatrium’s strategy of engaging yards in Brazil provides additional economic benefits for the largest country in South American. It has created a substantial number of jobs during the construction phase and when production starts, a whole range of additional positions, together with new skills, will be created for Brazilian workers.
Seatrium has a strong relationship with Petrobras and Brazil, having built FPSOs, floating production units, floating storage regasification units, drilling rigs, and accommodation vessels for deployment in the country’s thriving offshore sector.
