Scana wins first wind farm contract

Norway’s Scana Offshore AS has won a contract for the supply of mooring equipment to a floating wind farm, Hywind Tampen, owned by Norway’s state energy firm, Equinor.
Its first deal in offshore wind, Scana will supply 33 hull brackets for attaching anchoring lines to the hulls of eleven offshore wind turbines at the facility, as well as tools for use with remotely operated vehicles and the possible future replacement of anchor lines.
Torkjell Lisland, Scana Offshore’s managing director, commented: “We have a long track record of deliveries to the oil, gas and aquaculture market. Now we are looking forward to delivering mooring equipment to floating wind power as well – a market with great potential.
“In order to get into offshore wind and aquaculture, we have developed new and cost-reducing technology. The contract is a confirmation of our engineers’ expertise. The Hywind Tampen contract represents a breakthrough for this technology.”
The 88-MW Hywind Tampen is the world’s largest floating wind farm and is located between the Snorre and Gullfaks oil fields in the Norwegian North Sea. When it becomes operational, the wind farm will generate electricity for operations at the two oil fields.
