Netherlands-based Safeway, a specialist in offshore transfer equipment, has won a contract from Van Oord to supply the latest version of its Safeway Seagull motion-compensated gangway system for the subsea construction ship, Topaz Tangaroa.

The vessel, due to be deployed in Taiwanese waters later this year, will have a gangway system with a 3D crane function for the transfer of personnel and cargo of up to one tonne. It will support the cable layer, Nexus, in the transport, installation and burial of export and inter-array cables that Van Oord is undertaking at the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms.

The 28m-long Safeway Seagull gangway and crane system will enable the Topaz Tangaroa to provide roll compensation, height adjustment, zero impact bumpering/hover operation, and counterweight functions, enabling unrivalled uptime, Safeway said.

It is the second contract Safeway has won in the region in a matter of weeks and will cover system rental for two periods in August 2021 and March 2022.
