MPC Capital enters offshore wind market with launch of dedicated investment platform
The six ships, to be built at Esbjerg Shipyard in Denmark for deliveries between 2026 and 2028, will work on wind farms in the North and Baltic seas. The vessels will be equipped with efficient propulsion technology enabling carbon-neutral operation,
The company is collaborating with O.S. Energy, a German specialist in offshore project and services, in developing the project. Debt finance for the first vessel has been arranged with Ostfriesische Volksbank, Leer, with credit committee approval from an unnamed ‘first-class export credit agency’.
The European offshore wind sector is expected to grow by more than 20% a year until at least 2033, MPC noted, creating significant demand for advanced vessels to support all phases of the offshore wind farm lifecycle, including construction, maintenance, and decommissioning. The ships to be deployed on servicing the new installations are becoming more sophisticated, with demands for increasingly sustainable operation over the working lives of the offshore facilities.
MPC Capital chief executive, Constantin Black, said: “Offshore wind services represent a significant structural growth market and we are excited to bring our maritime and energy expertise to this rapidly developing sector. Demand for service vessels is set to grow dynamically, while a limited supply of assets is expected to drive strong momentum and create value for both our company and our partners.”
Commenting on the six-ship newbuilding deal, he added: “We are excited to launch our offshore activities with this compelling OSSV project. The vessels have been developed in collaboration with the established players in the offshore wind industry and are specifically tailored to meet the dynamic needs of this sector and support the energy transition in northern Europe. With a strong pipeline of follow-on projects, we look forward to growing out newly established maritime offshore platform.
