HHI delivers world's largest semi-submersible drilling rig

The semi-submersible drilling rig Ocean Greatwhite

South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has announced delivery of Ocean Greatwhite, said to be the world’s largest semi-submersible drilling rig, to Diamond Offshore, a Houston-based drilling contractor.

Measuring 123m in length and 78m in width, Ocean Greatwhite is capable of operating in waters up to 3km deep and drilling to a depth of 10.67km from the sea surface. The rig will be chartered to London-headquartered oil giant BP for operation in the Great Australian Bight from October this year.
HHI won the order worth USD 630 million to build the rig in 2013 and has delivered four other drillships to Diamond Offshore so far.
