Auto-tripping system from Huisman improves drilling efficiency
Tripping is the process whereby pipes in an offshore well are removed and/or replaced when it is necessary to change the drill bit or run tests in the well bore. The new Huisman system improves both the efficiency and safety of the drilling process, the company said. During the tests, more than 9,140m of drill pipe were successfully tripped, even in sea conditions with wave heights of up to 6m.
The system enables automatic tripping on all related equipment which is controlled in parallel. This can result in an improvement in operational efficiency of up to 24%. Meanwhile, during the tripping process, drilling personnel can focus closely on the drilling process and choose what operational steps are needed before tripping continues.
