Kvarken Link has invited shipyards to hand in offers for new ferry

Swedish ferry operator Kvarken Link AB plans to order a new ferry for its sailings between Vaasa and Umea.

Kvarken Link has invited four shipyards to participate in the final round of a tender
for the contract, asking them to submit their binding offers to build the ferry. Three of the shipyards are from Europe and one is from Asia. Kvarken Link managing director Mr Bertil Hammarstedt said offers from the shipyards must be presented by August 31, 2018. Evaluations, clarifications and negotiations between the shipyards and financiers will be carried out in September 2018. The aim is to have the contract signed before the turn of the year 2018/2019. The new ferry will be delivered on April 30, 2021. The Finnish government has promised support of 25 million euros for the newbuilding and the European Investment Bank (EIB) has informed that they will grant a when the contract with the shipyard is signed.
